Kenya

Further north, the high plains of Laikipia are increasingly recognised as one of Kenya’s best safari regions. The birdlife and flamingos at Lake Nakuru, Lake Natron and Lake Victoria and sprawling wildlife in Tsavo East, Tsavo West, Aberdare and Samburu National Reserves, offer one of the best wildlife-viewing experiences in the world. Protected coral reefs, warm ocean and white-sand beaches are found on the many Mombasa beaches. Exceptional marine life is found in the Watamu, Malindi and Mombasa Marine National Parks. Snorkelling and diving around Manda, Wasis and Chale islands is remarkable. Camps and lodges are of an exceptional standard.

Guidelines On Climate

Although it is often hot and humid at the sea, inland the air is dry. Temperatures rarely fall below 24oC (75oF). There are two seasons; summer from December to March and winter from June to October. These are divided by the short rains in November and the long rains from mid-March to the end of May. The climate is typically tropical at this time of year with bright mornings and 2-3 hours of rain in the afternoon. It is advisable to avoid Kenya’s Watamu Beach between April and October when on-shore winds deposit seaweed on the shoreline. Although wet up country, November is usually dry on the coast.
